Kybella: Say Goodbye To Your Double Chin Without Surgery

Kybella: Say Goodbye To Your Double Chin Without Surgery

If you’re frustrated by a double chin but don’t want surgery, you’re not alone. About 67% of people surveyed reported that they’re bothered by a double chin.

You don’t have to resort to surgery, though. Kybella® injections can help you say goodbye to your double chin — no scalpel or stitches required. They’re available here at Novell Primary Care and Weight Loss in Tallahassee, Florida.

Read on to learn more about how this FDA-approved injectable treatment can help permanently reduce submental fat.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a nonsurgical injectable treatment designed to target and destroy fat cells under your chin. Kybella’s superpower is synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule your body naturally uses to break down dietary fat.

When Kybella is injected into the submental area (under the chin), it breaks down fat cells, which your body then metabolizes and eliminates over time.

How does Kybella work?

Your Novell Primary Care and Weight Loss provider carefully maps the treatment area and administers a series of tiny injections under your chin.

The number of injections depends on the amount of fat and your desired outcome. Each session takes about 15-20 minutes, and most people need 2-4 sessions spaced a month apart for best results. You shouldn’t have more than six sessions total.

What to expect after Kybella

You may experience some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin for a few days after treatment: This is normal and part of the fat breakdown process. We often recommend using an ice pack and sleeping with your head elevated the first night.

Beyond this initial discomfort, there’s no lengthy downtime, no surgery, no stitches, and no incisions. Compare this to a chin tuck (submentoplasty), which requires anesthesia, incisions, drainage tubes, and downtime of at least two weeks (although incisions can take a few months to fully heal).

Over the following weeks, you’ll start to notice your chin area becoming slimmer and more sculpted. Because these fat cells are permanently destroyed (and your body eliminates them through your lymphatic system), you can bask in permanent results with increased jawline definition.

When to consider Kybella and when not to

Kybella is ideal for people who:

While Kybella is safe and effective for many, it’s not the right choice for everyone. If you have certain contraindications — such as an active infection at the injection site, difficulty swallowing, bleeding problems, or if you're pregnant or nursing — Kybella may not be recommended for you.

But you’re not out of luck.

At Novell Primary Care and Weight Loss, we offer comprehensive medical weight loss support. While it’s true you can’t target fat loss in one specific area, losing overall body fat through healthy eating and regular exercise can help naturally reduce fullness under the chin, along with other areas where fat tends to accumulate.

Our team is here to guide you with personalized strategies, whether that means Kybella, weight loss support, or a combination of both.
