Everything You Need to Know About Lip Flip With Botox®

Botox® is an aesthetic treatment that helps manage the signs of aging. It's beneficial for wrinkles and fine lines – but it's much more than that.

If you want fuller lips but aren't considering fillers, Botox is an option that provides a more natural look than fillers.

A lip flip is just one of the procedures we offer at Novell Primary Care and Weight Loss. Our team provides treatments to help you look and feel your best, including aesthetics, weight loss tools, and wellness injections.

Understanding a lip flip

A lip flip is a procedure that uses Botox to enhance lips without adding any volume. It's an excellent option for people who want a natural pouty appearance without adding volume through fillers.

We inject small amounts of Botox into specific areas of the upper lip during the procedure. As the Botox works, the muscles in those areas relax, allowing the upper lip to rest forward.

The result is fuller-looking lips without injecting fillers into the tissue. It's essentially an illusion because the lips aren't actually fuller—you just get that look from the muscles relaxing and pushing the lip outward.

It's a lot more natural-looking than lip fillers. A lip flip is temporary, but it offers a great option to see how you like fuller lips without a long-term commitment.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a potent neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum, a type of bacterium. It temporarily paralyzes the muscles to alleviate wrinkles and fine lines.

After being injected, Botox begins working immediately by blocking the release of acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that signals muscles to contract, which leads to aging skin, especially wrinkles.

The blockage of acetylcholine prevents the targeted muscle from contracting, which smooths out the skin. It also provides a fuller appearance to the lips without actually enhancing their volume.

What to expect after a lip flip

After we inject your lips, we monitor you for about 15 minutes to ensure you don't have an allergic reaction or any other issues. You can go about your day once we provide you with no problems.

After a lip flip, your lips may be slightly swollen and sensitive to touch. You may also feel some numbness. All of these symptoms are normal and typically resolve in 24 hours.

We provide you with some discharge instructions and tips to help your lips heal properly, and they include:

The procedure is very safe and effective for most people. The results are amazing, and you won't have to worry about trying lip fillers for the first time.

How long do the results last?

Unlike lip fillers, you don’t see the results of a lip flip right away. It usually takes at least a week to ten days to see a fuller appearance.

The results of a lip flip last anywhere from four to five months, depending on various factors. Your body may metabolize Botox faster or slower than usual, which can change how long you see fuller lips.

The good news is, that you can have another lip flip when it begins to wear off. Your results may last longer as your body gets used to Botox injections.
